New ministry swearing-in today
After a week’s politics in New Delhi, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday returned state with a list of 18 ministers who will be administered oath on Friday. Though, chief minister was at his residence and avoided meeting legislators waiting in the scorching sun at Lokpriye Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, sources in his
office said that the Congress high command and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh has given his consent for appointing the ministers.
According to the list the members who could find their place in the council of ministers included Goutam Roy, Ajit Singh, Siddique Ahmed, Kharsing Ingti, Pradyut Bordoloi, Prithvi Majhi, Pranati Phukan, Rajib Lochal Pegu, Rockybul Hussain, Ardhendu Kumar Dey, Najrul Islam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Akan Bora, Nilamoni Sen Deka, Tanka Bahadur Rai, Basanta Das, Ajanta Neog and Chandan Brahma. Chandan Brahma is the lone member in the new Assam ministry chosen from the BPF. On the other hand, Pranab Gogoi has been named as the Speaker of the Assam Assembly and Bhimananda Tanti as the deputy-speaker. In what has surprised the political observers is that name of former CM and senior-most leader of the Congress Bhumidhar Barman was missing from the list.
