New railway minister meets Kalka Mail accident victims
Hours after being sworn in as railway minister, Dinesh Trivedi arrived here on Tuesday night to meet the victims of the Howrah-Kalka Mail accident in Uttar Pradesh undergoing treatment in hospital.
After arriving in Kanpur, Trivedi headed to the Hailet hospital where 64 passengers injured in the train accident are being treated.
"The minister tried to meet all the victims of the train accident one by one. He enquired about their health and sought their feedback about the health services being offered by hospital," Chief Medical Superintendent Chandra Sen Kushwaha told the media over telephone.
"He was in the hospital for around 40 minutes," he added.
Earlier Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi met the victims.
The train derailed Sunday afternoon in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district, killing 69 passengers and leaving over 200 injured.
