New route soon to Mansarovar?
In the backdrop of recent incursions by Chinese troops into Indian territory, the two sides have discussed more confidence-building measures to ensure “peace and tranquillity” along the unresolved Line of Actual Control.
Also discussed at the third meeting of the working mechanism for consultation and coordination on India-China border affairs that ended Wednesday were steps to improve the existing mechanism to prevent flareups.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of opening additional pilgrimage routes to the holy site of Kailash Mansarovar, which falls in Chinese territory, given that the traditional route via Uttarakhand has been hit due to the recent floods there.
MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said Wednesday’s talks were held in a “constructive and forward-looking atmosphere”.
