Newborn dies after woman delivers outside hospital

In a shocking incident, a woman delivered her baby outside a primary health centre after its staff allegedly refused to admit her in Hanumangarh district near here.

The newborn died soon after the delivery, a health official said today.

"Santosh (28) yesterday delivered a baby outside the primary health centre in Makkasar village after staff members on duty allegedly refused to admit her. The newborn died after the delivery," Dr Subhash, an official of the Chief Medical and Heath Office, Hanumangarh, said.

The woman is now hospitalised at the district hospital, he added.

Following protests by locals over the incident, the medical and health department suspended three staff members including a doctor and put them on APO (awaiting posting orders) status.

"The centre in-charge Dr Ajay, male nurse Randhir and another employee Neeraj have been put on APO status and a committee has been constituted to probe the matter in detail," the official said
