Newborn girl poisoned, thrown into river by father in Madhya Pradesh
A man and his first wife allegedly killed a newborn girl from his second wife, by poisoning the infant before strangulating her and throwing her body in Aasan river here, police said.
The incident occurred at Jaderua Ka Pura village under Noorabad police station six days ago, police said.
According to police, the accused, 25-year-old Rajveer Gurjar and his first wife Munesh did not any child, which is why he got married with Lalo Gurjar without divorcing Munesh.
On May 12, Lalo gave birth to a baby girl. Disappointed by the birth of a girl, Rajveer and his first wife fed the infant poison that is used for killing lice and then strangulated her. Later, they threw her body in the Aasan river, police said.
They kept his second wife in confinement at their house.
However, she managed to escape and reported the matter to Noorabad police station today. Police have registered a case of murder against Rajveer and Munesh and arrested him.
Expert divers have been roped in search of the body. On the basis of Lalo's statement, police have arrested Rajveer and is further probing the incident, Bhind SP Sanjay Singh said.
The incident has taken place against the backdrop of Madhya Pradesh government's ambitious 'Beti Bacaho Abhiyan' (Save Girlchild campaign) and Aamir Khan's television show 'Satyamev Jayate', the first part of which had dealth with the issue of female foeticide.
