Newly-married woman dies during scuffle between family, lover
A newly-married woman died in unexplained circumstances during a brawl between her family and a youth, who claimed to be her former lover, in Lolab area in Kashmir's Kupwara district.
The woman, who was recently married to her cousin, died during the brawl involving the youth and a few other men, who went to her house in Malagund village last night, official sources said.
The youth, identified as Waqar Khan, claimed that he had already married the woman and demanded she be restored to him, the sources said.
Khan alleged that the woman was forced into a 'second marriage' by her parents as they were against him getting married to their daughter, they said.
This led to a scuffle between the woman's relatives and Khan and his accomplices, resulting in the death of the woman, they said.
The relatives of the deceased along with some local residents staged a dharna this morning and alleged that the assailants included some police personnel, who indulged in vandalism.
A police spokesman rubbished the allegations, saying a case has been registered under section 302 RPC against unnamed persons and investigations have begun.
