NGO to stop midday meals in punjab
An NGO providing midday meals to around 1.79 lakh students in six districts in Punjab has decided to quit the service alleging that some antisocial elements wanted to spoil the image of the organisations and government and any untoward incident could happen.
NGO Stri Shakti is expected to withdraw its services in Ferozepur district from August 15 and remaining districts in September. The NGO in a letter to the office of director-general, school education, has written that due to some anti-social elements attempting to malign the image of the NGO and government, it wanted to quit the service before any untoward incident happened. It is providing midday meals to 1.61 lakh students in 2,350 government schools in Fazilka, Nawanshaher and Ferozepur districts after cooking food in centralised kitchens.
