NIA chargesheet on Simi secret meetings filed
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), probing various terror cases in Kerala, on Thursday filed the chargesheet in the case relating to a secret meeting of activists of banned Simi near Kochi in which five of the 17 accused were slapped with sedition charges.
The chargesheet was filed in connection with the meeting of the activists of the Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) at Panayikulam near Aluva on August 15, 2006. According to the chargesheet, P.A. Shaduly, Abdul Rasik, Ansar, Nizamuddin and Shammi, accused one-to-five, had entered into a criminal conspiracy in Ernakulam and other places to “advocate, incite, abet unlawful activities of cession of Kashmir from India and to bring hatred and contempt towards the Government of India” and organised the meeting at Panayikulam which was attended by the remaining accused.
The five have been charged under IPC 120B (criminal conspiracy) read with 124A (sedition) and under provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The sedition offence entails a maximum punishment of life term and a minimum of three years imprisonment.
Eighty-nine witnesses and 69 documents were examined. Che Guvera Vipla Vithinite Idihasam and Islamum Janandi Pathyam were among the books seized from the accused.
According to the chargesheet, K.N. Rajesh, a police sub-inspector at Binanipuram, had received information on August 15, 2006 about a secret meeting of Simi at an auditorium in Panayikulam. On visiting the spot, he found that there were 17 persons in the room and some of them were making inflammatory speeches. These persons were arrested and later let out on bail.
