NIA may file charges on Rana
The government on Friday expressed disappointment at Pakistani-Canadian Tahawwur Rana’s acquittal by a US court on charges of plotting the Mumbai carnage.
“The government has taken note of the verdict announced by a US court in the Rana case following the finding by the jury that he was guilty on two of three counts. Rana has been found guilty on one count of conspiracy to provide material support to the terrorism plot in Denmark and the other of providing material support to the Pak-based militant LeT,” said Mr U.K. Bansal, secretary (internal security) in the ministry of home affairs.
Mr Bansal added that the NIA has decided to wait for proceedings to conclude in the US court before filling a chargesheet in an Indian court. The agency will file a chargesheet after getting all information from the authorities concerned in the US. “After examining the verdict in the US court, and after reviewing the documents and evidence that it expects to receive, the NIA will take a decision on filing a chargesheet against Headley, Rana and others in an Indian court,” he said.
