Nilam toll 9, rain batters AP

Heavy rains continued to lash coastal areas and parts of Telangana in the state for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday thanks to Cyclone Nilam. So far the rains have claimed nine lives and damaged crops over several lakhs of acres.

Hyderabad, which had been receiving heavy rains during the last two days, got a respite on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Khammam and Adilabad districts received heavy rains.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation with chief secretary Minnie Mathew and other officials from Vizag on Saturday. He directed the CS to monitor the situation in West Godavari and Krishna districts.
