Nitish: CBI to probe Ranvir Sena killing
Bowing to Opposition demands, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday recommended a CBI probe into the killing of Ranvir Sena supremo Bramheshwar Singh.
A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting Mr Kumar had with top state police officials and home department officials at his residence this morning.
State director-general of police Abhayanand and principal secretary of the home department Aamir Subhani also attended the meeting. “The chief minister has decided to hand over the murder case to CBI during the meeting,” an official spokesman said.
Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan and the Bihar Congress had demanded a CBI inquiry to probe the killing.
The Ranvir Sena chief was shot dead by gunmen while he was taking a stroll near his house in Khopira village in Bhojpur district last Friday.
Talking to reporters at a function, the chief minister said the state government decided to recommend a CBI probe in deference to the sentiments expressed by “Mukhi-yaji’s” kin who had conveyed their desire for an inquiry by the Central agency to Patna Zone IG B. Srinivasan Tuesday.
