Nitrogen gas leak at Dr Reddy's labs kills two workers
Hyderabad: A nitrogen gas leak has claimed the lives of two workers at a drug-making unit of Dr Reddy's labs at Kukatpally, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. No other injuries have been reported.
The deceased, identified as Deepak from Orissa and Sridhar Reddy from Guntur, were working on the night shift. Locals brought them to a nearby hospital following the leak but doctors, however, declared them brought dead.
The families of the deceased have been informed and authorities have begun a probe to determine what caused the leak.
Nitrogen is used for the treatment of raw material for drugs. The Kukatpally facility manufactures Omeprazole, a drug used to treat dyspepsia and peptic ulcer disease.
Shares, meanwhile, of India's second-largest drug maker by sales, which fell more than four per cent, recouped some losses to trade 0.7 per cent lower at 1,676 rupees in a firm Mumbai market.
