No arrests yet on information revealed by Abu Jundal
A massive multi-agency probe carried out on disclosures by Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militant Abu Jundal to track down his Indian Mujahideen and Simi contacts in the country has come a cropper so far.
Central intelligence agencies along with special branch and crime branch units in Maharashtra, Bihar, Karnataka, Gujarat and some other states have been working quietly on the information revealed by Jundal in a bid to break the network of Simi and IM operatives.
Highly-placed intelligence sources said it seemed most of Jundal’s key contacts in India had gone underground.
It appeared they were aware of Jundal’s detention by Saudi authorities. These IM and Simi operatives, sources said, were tipped off and directed to go into immediate hiding the minute Jundal was picked up by the Saudis three months ago.
Thus, though Jundal has provided major leads on terror modules in India, not a single arrest has been made yet.
Intelligence officials also claim Pakistani agencies were aware that Jundal had been picked up in Saudi Arabia. Pakistan had in fact staked claim to Jundal, claiming he was its citizen.
It is suspected these Pakistani agencies tipped off IM and Simi operatives in India through terror outfits like LeT.
