No compromise on separate Telangana: KCR
Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday hit out at Justice Srikrishna Committee report giving six options and said his party will not accept anything short of Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital.
Warning of serious consequences if a separate state was denied, KCR asked elected representatives of the region, particularly Congress MPs and MLAs, to quit their seats if a bill for carving out Telangana was not introduced in the ensuing Budget Session of Parliament.
Ridiculing the other recommendations made by the committee, KCR said that they were fit to be dumped in a dustbin.
The committee suggestions for making Hyderabad a Union Territory and merger of Rayalaseema with Telangana were jokes. “These are useless recommendations and we condemn them,” he said.
He also derided the committee suggestion for constitution of special boards to set right imbalances in various sectors saying that such moves had never worked.
“There is no question of any compromise on Telangana,” said the TRS chief. “Telangana wants its own identity, self-rule and self respect. We will go to any length to achieve our goal. Nothing in the world can substitute self respect and self-rule.”
He appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to not test the patience of Telangana people who had suffered a lot in five decades.
“He has to stick to the December 9, 2009 statement announcing the start of the process of formation of Telangana,” said KCR.
Warning of serious consequences if the Centre drags its feet, KCR said the Telangana Joint-Action Committee (TJAC), headed by Prof M. Kodanda Ram, will discuss the issue and announce an action-plan.
