Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday expressed confidence that the Congress-NCP alliance will remain intact during the 2014 elections. Mr Chavan claimed that the relations between the leaders of both parties are smooth and they are focusing only on the 2014 Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections.
Mr Chavan, who assumed chief minister’s office on November 11, 2010, completed two years in the office on Sunday. Interacting with the media on the occasion, he denied reports of conflict among leaders of ruling parties in the state.
“There was some bitterness between the Congress and the NCP when both parties fought last year’s local bodies elections separately. But now there is no bitterness. We will have to work together as colleagues in Maharashtra, and in Delhi,” Mr Chavan said.
Leaders from both parties have openly criticised each other in past one year. The NCP had even tried to put the entire blame on the CM saying that there was lack of co-ordination in the ruling alliance partners. However, the CM said that all differences have been resolved. “Disputes arose only during the gram panchayat and nagar panchayat elections. We are now focusing on 2014 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. We will contest both these elections together,” he said.
Mr Chavan also assured that the state would be free of power load-shedding by December 31.
“The pending power projects will be completed. If there is shortfall of electricity, traded power would be taken. If people are ready to spend more for 24 hour electricity, traded power will be supplied as much as they want, but at the higher tariff,” he added.
