No curbs for foreigners in 3 NE states
The Centre has decided to lift the decades-old curbs on foreigners visiting Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram that made it mandatory for them to seek government permission.
The ministry of home affairs said on Friday that “the government has decided to exclude Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland from the Protected Area regime notified under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958, initially for a period of one year”, effective January 1, 2011.
The citizens of some countries, including Pakistan and China, will continue to require prior permission for these three states.
However, all foreigners visiting these three states will have to register themselves with the FRO of the district they visit within 24 hours of arrival.
