No direct link in Delhi, Thai blasts
Indian and Thai investigating agencies have so far not been able to find any direct link between the terror attack on the Israeli diplomat in Delhi and the Bangkok bombings. According to home ministry sources, this analysis is based on preliminary findings of the investigations conducted at both ends.
While the Thai authorities have said that the bomb used in Bangkok was “a C4 type explosive” which is completely different from the one triggered in the capital, which was a magnetic bomb triggered by a switcher using nitro glycerine and potassium chlorate. Officials, however, were quick to add that this is just a preliminary finding and a detailed investigation report was still awaited from the Bangkok police. Further, investigations have also confirmed that the three Iranian suspects involved in the Bangkok bombings have never been to India, more so in recent times.
Thus, these important developments have only confirmed what the Indian intelligence have been suspecting so far. That the 13/2 attack has been carried out by local terrorist outfits, but with assistance from militant groups based outside.
Meanwhile, V. Narayasamy, minister of state in PMO, said India wants good relations with all countries and that the ongoing probe into the incident has nothing to do with India-Iran ties
“As far as Iran is concerned our stand is clear. India has made its stand clear.... We would like to keep good relations with all other countries,” he added. While referring to the bomb attack, Mr Narayanasamy said that the investigations have “nothing to do with India-Iran relationship.”
Further, investigating agencies have managed to track two suspicious calls that were made to a cellphone in Delhi by a suspected HuJI operative from Cox’s Bazar.
One of these calls was made on the day of the incident itself, on February 13, following which the phone has been switched off. Intelligence agencies are aggressively pursuing this lead. Special teams have been sent to Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka sand Kerala.
In Karnataka, teams have been sent to Udupi and Bhatkal where both Lashakar-e-Tayyeba and Indian Mujahideen have a strong network. The police teams have so far scanned more than 1,200 red motorcycles similar to the ones used in the explosion.
Sources said investigators are also scanning the Indian staff at the Israeli embassy to ascertain if someone leaked information regarding movement of diplomats.
In another development, the condition of Tal Yehoshua, the Israeli woman diplomat, remains stable and she is likely to be discharged soon. Admitted to Primus Super Hospital since Monday, she has undergone a spine and liver surgery and is responding well to treatment, doctors attending on her said.
