No national level role for Modi yet
While the BJP has suitably appeased Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi with the sacking of Sanjay Joshi, it doesn’t seem to be ready to give any role to the Gujarat chief minister at the national level yet.
The BJP on Friday denied any proposal to include Mr Modi in the party’s parliamentary board. BJP general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad, however, called Mr Modi the most towering leader of the party.
The party’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde said there are no plans to make any additions to the parliamentary board till December this year, by when the party’s organisational elections will be completed.
“Mr Modi is already part of the party’s national executive. But there has been no discussion regarding expansion of the parliamentary board,” Mr Munde said.
When asked categorically about the party’s plans to include Mr Modi in the parliamentary board in order to give him a role at the national level, Mr Munde said, “We have started the process of organisational elections that will be completed by the end of December this year. Till then, there are no plans to include anybody in the parliamentary board.”
Earlier, former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had suggested that Mr Modi be the party’s prime ministerial candidate.
However, BJP general secretary Mr Prasad said it was only Mr Yeddyurappa’s personal opinion.
