‘No pact, BJP backed us voluntarily’
Mysore: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda on Friday refuted the Congress accusation that all opposition parties had united to defeat Congress candidates in the parliamentary by-polls to Bangalore rural and Mandya constituencies.
“There is no secret pact between JD(S) and BJP. The BJP volunteered to support us and withdrew their candidates’ nomination papers. I did not meet any BJP leader seeking support.
The JD(S) ideology of being secular has not been compromised. Since the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was facing corruption charges in several scams and the Congress in the state is indulging in vindictive politics, the BJP has decided to support JD(S) to teach Congress a lesson”, Deve Gowda told reporters after addressing a public rally in KR Pete taluk of Mandya district.
The JD(S) supremo mocked at the Congress for failing to field a competent and suitable candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency. After much dilly-dallying, the Congress has fielded a film star.
“I don’t want to say anything about the Congress candidate, but my only appeal is that in the interest of development of the constituency, please vote for JD(S) candidate C.S. Puttaraju, who is people-friendly and has an indepth knowledge of local issues”.
He alleged that Congress has taken the by-polls as a prestige issue and was banking on money power to win the poll. Voters should not fall prey to such tactics, he said adding that all his life, he had fought for Cauvery water and farmers’ issues and will continue to do till his last breath.
