No party support angers Assam CM
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi is perturbed over the way he has been left by his party to face the charges of corruption in to the multi-crore rupees scam of the North Cachar Autonomous Hills Council in Assam.
This is what came to light on Thursday when Mr Gogoi while briefing the stand of the government on the North Cachar Hills scam, expressed his anguish to the senior party leaders at New Delhi. If Congress insiders are to believe, Mr Gogoi regretted that the Opposition was trying to portray him as “villain” but party was silent.
The chief minister, who is in New Delhi after his health check-up in Mumbai, had convened the meeting of the senior party leaders to discuss the strategy of the party for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.
The meeting was also attended by AICC general secretary and newly appointed in-charge of the Congress affairs in Assam Digvijay Singh.
Though, Mr Singh was not present when Mr Gogoi expressed his unhappiness before the senior party leaders, the Congress insiders said that Mr Singh was also reluctant to defend Mr Gogoi over corruption charges and suggested the party leaders to concentrate over the election strategy instead of getting into the faults of the party and the government.
Mr Singh told the senior party leaders which included Congress MPs and ex MPs from the state also that they have very little time to prepare for the elections.
In what has exposed the widening communication gap between the PCC and the government, the party leadership has decided not to defend the ministers facing serious corruption charges not only from opposition political parties but also from NGOs and RTI activists.
