‘No permission for new colleges’
Sounding the death knell for new engineering and professional colleges in the country, Dr S.S. Mantha, chairman of the All-India Council for Technical Education on Saturday said that permissions to new colleges would not be granted unless need for it is mentioned in the perspective plan of the state and concerned university.
While addressing a conference, Dr Mantha stressed on various issues, including the new academic format adopted by AICTE for engineering colleges.
Dr Mantha said that permissions for new colleges would only be granted in the event of the requirement being previously mentioned in the perspective plan of the state government and the concerned university.
Even if colleges and institutions have the requisite infrastructure in place, AICTE, which is the approving authority for all such institutions in the country, will not give the go-ahead, unless it is mentioned in the perspective plans.
