No power in 500 Andhra Pradesh villages
Hyderabad: Around 500 hamlets across the state still lack power supply. Three years have passed since a Rural Electrification Plan was launched but there are over 10 lakh unelectrified rural as well as BPL households in the state.
The plan mandated 12-hour power supply to unelectrified pockets. The APTransco sent a proposal to the Centre to install solar power lighting systems for these areas which was approved partially, said an official. The solar panels, intended for the remotest of villages would ensure electrification for basic lighting.
The idea was that since grid connectivity would not be feasible in such areas, off-grid solutions based on standalone systems would be taken up for the supply of electricity so that every household got access to power.
