No proof against modi in riots case: Gujarat
The Gujarat government on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict in the Gulberg society riots case, saying there is no shred of evidence now against CM Narendra Modi, and ensured that all victims will get justice as early as possible.
“The decision has come after completion of due process of law, based upon the independent investigations and reports by the SC-appointed SIT which took into consideration every aspect placed before it,” health minister Jaynarayan Vyas told reporters here.
“The SC judgment is a welcome development. The SIT investigation has debunked the theory of political conspiracy and the involvement of the chief minister Modi in post-Godhra riots.”
Mr Vyas further said the Supreme Court had also rejected the demand of handing over investigation to the CBI, endorsing the SIT report. “In all these (riot) cases there is no evidence pointing fingers at the chief minister. Trial court will deal with those who would be named in SIT report,” Mr Vyas said.
He alleged that “if a section of NGOs and others had not obstructed this process, the victims could have got justice long back”. “The Gujarat government expresses its commitment to ensure all victims get justice as early as possible,” he said. — PTI
