No sedatives found in Uttarbanga Exp pilots
The viscera report of the loco-pilot and the assistant loco-pilot of Uttarbanga Express that met with an accident at Sainthia on July 19, claims that no trace of poison, alcohol or sedatives has been found in their stomach, revealed state CID sources. The viscera report that was prepared by the Hyderabad Central Forensic Science Laboratory was handed over to a West Bengal CID team on Friday in Hyderabad. The report is likely to reach Kolkata on Monday.
After the accident, questions have been raised whether the loco-pilot and the assistant loco-pilot were under the influence of any drugs or alcohol that led to the train’s collision with Vananchal Express, resulting in the death of 60 persons. Though the post-mortem report had already ruled out the presence of any sedatives, poison or alcohol in their bodies, it was the viscera report that the investigating officers were waiting for to confirm the fact.
The sample of the viscera was sent to the Hyderabad CFSL three weeks after the incident.
Recently the investigation suffered a major set-back when the CID was informed by the railway department that the engine of the Uttarbanga Express had been damaged beyond repair and no mechanical report regarding the condition of the engine before the collision, could be derived.
