No terror links of fake visa-holders
The Delhi police on Wednesday said that the 27 passengers, who were held at IGI airport here, were not part of any terrorist outfit and a “rival visa racket,” may have blew the lid off the racket by making hoax calls to two private airlines on Tuesday evening.
The Delhi police, however, said that the accused, who made the call, could a part of larger gang and an investigation was on to verify the caller’s antecedents. The police have also arrested travel agents, Rakesh Chopra and Sunil Bisht of Pan Travels, who had issued tickets to these passengers with fake visas. The passengers have also been arrested for forgery and cheating and a case was registered at IGI police station.
The 27 passengers were travelling to Dubai by Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways on Tuesday night when the airlines’ offices received anonymous calls from a Dubai SIM card, which triggered a hijack scare at IGI. Security agencies were rushed in and a full hijack alert was declared at IGI.
However, when the 27 men were detained and questioned jointly by the security agencies and IB men, it turned out that they were going to Iraq on promises of good jobs. The police said the passengers had paid Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh to the agents for facilitating their travel.
