No threat to J&K govt: Farooq
Ahead of the visit of an all-party delegation from Jammu and Kashmir to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, National Conference president and Union minister Farooq Abdullah ruled out any threat to the J&K government headed by Omar Abdullah, saying it was strong enough to face any challenge.
“There is no threat to the government. The coalition partners (NC and Congress) are strong. There is no question of toppling the government,” Mr Abdullah told reporters after meeting home minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday. Mr Abdullah is believed to have discussed the prevailing law and order situation in the Valley with the home minister and apprised him of the steps being taken by the state government in restoring normalcy in the state.
Mr Abdullah said that an all-party delegation of the state would soon meet the Prime Minister.
The former chief minister had attended the all-party meeting convened by his son and chief minister Omar Abdullah.
The all-party meeting had appealed to all political parties irrespective of their affiliation to come forward and help in restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
The parties decided to meet the Prime Minister while urging the Centre to strengthen the on-going peace process through internal and external dialogue. During the last one week, the Kashmir Valley has witnessed violent protests leading to imposition of curfew in several places.
