Noose tightens around Jaganmohan Reddy

The CBI will be filing more chargesheets against Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy as it will bring more firms, which had made qu-id pro quo investments in his firms, under the ambit of the illegal assets’ case.

CBI sources said that a se-ries of chargesheets would be filed regarding investments by Dalmia and India Cements in Raghuram Cements, Pioneer Infra of Penna Group that was awarded the Jalayagnam projects, the Sandur Power Company investments, the alleged fictitious firms in Kolkata, Vanpic-Nimmagadda Prasad etc. They added that Jagan would feature in all these chargesheets which would be filed within the next two months.

Stating that the charge-sheet against Vanpic would be one of the last ones, a CBI investigator said, “The ‘accused number’ will be changed in the multiple chargesheets. Almost all of them are ready and we will be filing them one by one.”

The recent Comptroller and Auditor General’s report, which accused the state of giving away land cheaply, has come as a shot in the arm for the CBI. “We will file the CAG and IT reports as evidences. The Income Tax report has been quoted in the first chargesheet,” said a CBI official.

Senior advocate C. Mall-esh Rao said, “There’s no bar for the CBI on filing further chargesheets. Not mentioning this in the first chargesheet won’t stop CBI from filing further chargesheets as per CRPC.”

CBI superintendent of police H. Venkatesh, who is also the prime investigating officer in the case, said, “The chargesheet filed by the CBI regarding the Aurobindo and Hetero violations was only the first one. There are different conspiracies in the entire case.”

Jagan may face Kanimozhi’s fate, say officials

According to legal experts, Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s case is similar to that of Ms Kani-mozhi’s in the 2G scam and it is up to the CBI special court at Nampally to send him to judicial custody.

Sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation said that the court, after taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed against Jaganmohan Reddy, can issue summons and decide on his arrest or bail.

The MP has to appear before the court once the summons are issued and he can file a bail application and later a discharge petition.

However, the CBI has an option in the other conspiracies, for which chargesh-eets will be filed soon, to affect an arrest if it feels that Jaganmohan Reddy and the other accused are influencing witnesses.

“The court will decide on it after taking cognisance. But in the other chargesheets that are to be filed, we still have the option of arrest.’
