'Not done anything wrong', says Dikshit on CWG allegations

Unfazed by the allegations of irregularities in Commonwealth Games projects, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday asserted she or her government has ‘not done anything wrong’ and said everything was done keeping in mind the ‘national interest and prestige’.

"We have not done anything wrong. Everything was done keeping in mind the national interest and prestige. We were entrusted with certain responsibilities and we delivered them," Dikshit said.

Her reaction came in the wake of reports carrying allegations levelled by the Comptroller and Auditor General of irregularities in awarding of contracts of certain CWG projects. Ruling out that the criticism was making her ‘uncomfortable’, Dikshit said her government will present its case when it will be asked to.

"There is a process. After tabling of the CAG report in Parliament, it goes to the Public Accounts Committee. When they will ask about our position, we will explain," Dikshit said.

The CAG has reportedly rapped her and the government for irregularities in awarding of CWG projects.

Asked whether she was disappointed at the allegations made by various agencies including the Shunglu Committee, CVC and CAG, Dikshit said she was not disappointed as ‘my conscience is very clear.’

"I am not disappointed as my conscience is very clear. There was a situation which warranted certain measures and we responded to that situation," she said.

However, she said anybody found guilty of any wrongdoing will not be spared.

"We will not spare anybody found guilty of any wrongdoings," she said.

The CAG report, yet to be tabled in Parliament, has reportedly pointed out that Spageage, one of the disqualified firms bidding for street lighting, was declared qualified "irregularly" after it made a plea to the Chief Minister.

It also reportedly found overspending by Delhi government and civic agencies to the tune of over Rs100 crore over streetscaping and an excess expenditure of Rs31.07 crore on street lighting by MCD, NDMC and PWD.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
