Not upset by Bihar poll result: Rahul
Hinting that his aim and efforts were to rebuild party organisations at grass roots in the state, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said, he was not upset with the Bihar Assembly elections results.
Responding to a question by reporters outside Parliament House, the young Congress leader, who played the key role in re-energising the party apparatus in the state, said, “No, I am not upset by the Bihar elections results.”
This was the first remark, which the Congress’ youth icon made after the Bihar results were announced. Congress received a severe jolt, as the party could not retain its previous strength of nine members in the assembly. The party could win only four seats out of 243, which it contested.
On the day the results were announced Congress president Sonia Gandhi in her remarks had said, the party’s performance indicated that everything “now needs to be re-build from the scratch” in Bihar.
After the poor showing by Congress in the recently concluded elections where the party’s tally was reduced from nine seats to four, political opponents commented that the magic of Mr Gandhi and Congress president had not worked.
None of the constituencies in which Mr Gandhi campaigned returned a winner, while only two of the seats where Sonia Gandhi campaigned saw party candidates winning.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters at regular Congress briefing AICC spokes-person Manish Tewari said, the party took a “conscious” decision to go alone in Bihar with an aim to re-build the organisation.
