Nothing wrong in Anna’s poll campaign plan: Bedi
There was nothing wrong in Anna Hazare's decision to campaign against the Congress in the assembly elections in five states, said Ms Kiran Bedi, a prominent member of Team Anna.
"That sure makes our movement political," she said while interacting with mediapersons at the DC Book Fair in Kanakakunnu Palace grounds here. "But our politics is to bring voter awareness on Jan Lok Pal.
We are not contesting for asking for votes. We will ask people to vote for those who support Jan Lok Pal."
When pointed out that this was akin to helping the BJP, the prime rival of the Congress, Ms Bedi said: “We are only trying to create awareness among the voters on the law.”
She added that voters should also be given the 'right to reject' so that they are not forced to vote for candidates they do not like.
Ms Bedi denied that there was any rift in Team Anna said such reports were part of a motivated campaign by some groups.
“People such as Rajagopal and Rajinder Singh left because they have their own campaigns,” she said. “There is no rift at all. The allegations made against us also don't have even a straw of truth in them.”
She added that Anna wanted to expand the core committee to bring more people into the movement.
“It is good that the movement is expanding,” she said. On what should be done with the wealth found in the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, Ms Bedi said: “I think much good can be done with it. But it is for the people of the state to decide.”
