Notice issued to Congress candidate on Beni's statement
A notice was on Friday issued to Congress candidate Shakuntala Devi seeking clarification from her on controversial statements made by Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma and Digvijay Singh during a rally organised here.
Devi is the Congress nominee from Kaiamganj where Verma was canvassing for her. The notice was issued by an Election Officer of Kaiamganj (reserved) constituency M.K. Sharma.
Addressing a rally on Wednesday night, Verma had said that quota of Muslims would be increased.
"Reservation of Muslims will be increased and if the EC wants, it can now issue notice to me," Verma said while addressing a rally on February 15 in the presence of Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh and Union Law Minister Khurshid.
The minister said Khurshid was 'honestly fighting for the Muslims' and Digvijay had advocated reservation on Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka model.
