Now, a pro-Kundankulam rally

Even as the anti-Koodankulam nuclear plant protest entered its 25th day on Friday, a pro-Koodankulam rally was called by Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) near Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu.
"Congressmen are also participating in the rally and we expect around 3,000 people in support of the nuclear plant," Congress MP representing Tirunelveli constituency said.
Meanwhile, around 6,000 people gathered at Chettikulam village and sat on a one-day token fast while the villagers of Idinthakarai observed the relay fast for 25th day, M. Pushparayan, member of the state committee of People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy, said.
He said the fishermen in the district abstained from going into the sea in view of the protest at Chettikulam.
According to Pushparayan, the protest at Chettikulam was only for Friday.
Over 100 anti-nuclear power activists reached Kudankulam from Madurai on Thursday night and joined the protestors against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP).
Several noted anti-nuclear personalities addressed the people gathered at Chettikulam and Idinthakarai, saying there were several safer ways of generating power than taking atomic route.
India's nuclear power plant operator Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) is building two 1,000 MW nuclear power reactors with Russian technology and equipment in Kudankulam, around 650 km from here.
