NRHM probe: CBI set to book 5 BSP leaders
The CBI is set to book at least five senior BSP leaders, including party MLAs and MLCs, in connection with its probe related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh.
“The agency, which is preparing to register at least 10 more FIRs in the NRHM scam, has prima facie found serious indications that there was alle-gedly a criminal conspiracy between the contractors and some BSP leaders in awarding contracts related to the Centrally-sponsored scheme meant for 72 districts of UP,” CBI sources said. At least five BSP leaders may be named in the FIRs, expected to be registered by the end of January, they added.
The CBI has already registered five cases in the scam and had named former UP family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha as an accused in its first FIR. “The agency conducted raids at about 60 places in Delhi, and in different districts of UP, on January 4. Searches were also conducted at the residences of BSP MLA Ram Prasad Jaiswal and MLC Ram Chandra Pradhan. The roles of these two BSP leaders are already under the scanner of the CBI,” the sources said. Besides, the CBI, which recently questioned former UP health minister Anant Kumar Mishra in connection with the murder of two chief medical officers and a deputy CMO, is investigating his role in alleged irregularities in NRHM fund distribution and may summon him for questioning, the sources added.
