NRIs prefer Jayalalithaa as PM, not Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi
Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa seems to have a huge fan following among non-resident Indians (NRIs).
A recent survey among NRIs says they consider her better qualified than Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi to become the Indian Prime Minister.
The survey conducted among 500 NRIs from the Gulf Cooperation Council, Australia, Canada, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and India, rated Jayalalithaa the best for the job in terms of her leadership, governance and accountability , according to Pon Mohaideen Pitchai, an NRI and HR consultant in Dubai.
In fact about 75 per cent of those surveyed felt she was the best among available leaders for the job, he told reporters here on Tuesday, adding that most of those surveyed through email or phone said Manmohan Singh lacked the qualities of a Prime Minister.
“We conducted the survey after the media widely reported that their respective party members wanted Mr Rahul Gandhi, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and Jayalalithaa to become Prime Minister. We wanted to see which of them was rated the best among NRIs.
Jayalalithaa scored 86 marks, as against 81 by Modi and 53 by Rahul Gandhi.
The marks out of 100 were given for education, experience, leadership skills, national outlook, mass support, party influence, faith in secular democracy, and so on,” he said.
“We had to reject DMK chief M. Karunanidhi owing to his age. Mayawati is considered casteist and Mamata Banerjee as lacking in national outlook. So, we confined our survey to the three leaders,” he explained when asked if other leaders were included in the opinion poll.
