Nuke bill to be tabled before August 10
The government plans to bring the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill in the Lok Sabha in the second week of August for passage.
It expects the report of the standing committee examining this bill to be made available to it before August 10.
“We are trying to build unanimity. We will look at the amendments suggested. We are discussing it on a daily basis,” government sources said.
The standing committee, headed by senior Congress leader Mr Subbirami Reddy, is expected to meet on Tuesday, August 2 and August 4.
The government is determined to pass the Bill during the session with the help of Samajwadi Party, BSP and the RJD.
The bill is unlikely to be unanimous with the members belonging to the Left and other parties will give their dissent in writing. The Cabinet will take a view if the standing committee suggests amendments to the current bill.
