Nun's body found in waste-water pit near convent

A middle-aged nun was today found dead in a waste-water pit near a convent at Poonkulam near Kovalam beach resort in the district, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sister Mary Ancy (48), who was an inmate of a convent near Holy Spirit Primary School at Poonkulam. The body was found in the water pit by the sisters this morning.

The nun went missing from her room where she had gone to sleep last night after prayers.

Police said they suspect a foul play behind the incident as one concrete slab of the pit was found removed.

Sr Ancy, who hails from Kottayam district, had been an inmate of the convent for the last 21 years.
