Obama alert: Delhi shops on his route will be shut
Ahead of US President Barack Obama’s high-profile visit and with Diwali approaching, the home ministry on Monday asked all states, particularly Maharashtra, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, to step up security and avert possible terror strikes.
In New Delhi, CCTV networks were activated in 10 more market areas. All shops and commercial establishments on routes to be taken by Mr Obama’s convoy will remain shut on the days he will be travelling there, a senior police officer said. The police will also ensure there are no posters of any kind pasted along the route.
The US Secret Service is learnt to have sought a complete shutdown of the routes on which Mr Obama will travel, but police officials refused to comment.
