Obama platter on menu
Bilateral deals and international issues apart, US President Barack Obama will have an important culinary agenda when he travels to India in November this year.
He is not only eager to savour the “Hillary Platter” — the dish Bukhara restaurant at ITC’s Maurya Sheraton in New Delhi created for the Secretary of State — he also wants an “Obama Platter” named after him.
Mr Obama is curious to know what is offered on the Hillary Platter at Bukhara, ex-US President Clinton’s favourite restaurant in New Delhi.
As Mr Obama greeted the gathered guests with a “Namaste” he wondered, if the Hillary platter had chapati, amidst laughter at a reception hosted by Mr Clinton in honour of external affairs minister, S.M. Krishna.
“Secretary Clinton, I think, as you may be aware, is a great admirer of India. And I know the sentiment is shared in return,” Mr Obama said in his opening remarks at the reception with both Mr Clinton and Mr Krishna standing by his sides.
“In fact, I’m told that one of the secretary’s favourite restaurants in Delhi added a new item to the menu the Hillary Platter,” Mr Obama said as the audience burst into laughter. “This is true,” he quipped.
