OC digitises CWG-related records

The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee is converting its voluminous documents into digital format to prevent tampering and preserve for future reference.

OC officials said 90 per cent of the work has been completed and the rest will be done by this year-end.

"There are several files in the OC headquarters. We have decided to digitally preserve all the files and keep them in a well-indexed way," CEO of the Games Organising body Jarnail Singh said. He said these records will be made available to domestic or international sports federations for conducting any event.

The OC has two huge central record rooms at its headquarters for keeping files.

"There are several files related to tenders and legacy related works. We will keep those files as well. But the thrust is to digitalise all papers related to works done in important functional areas such as ticketing, catering, operations, work force and ceremonies among others," the official said.

Investigating and enforcement agencies like the CBI and the ED among others are looking into alleged irregularities in various projects related to the conduct of mega sporting event held here in October 3-14 last year.

Besides, the government has constituted a Group of Ministers to submit its report on the Games including alleged corruption. According to another OC officials, the digitisation of records will also help in furnishing documents to probe agencies and Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament, which is scrutinising a report by Comptroller and Auditor General on the Games.

Former OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi and Secretary General Lalit Bhanot among others are lodged in Tihar jail for their alleged involvement in illegal practices.
