OC official to be in CBI custody for 2 more days
Facilitating the probe agency, CBI, to unravel the alleged financial bunglings in conduct of the Queen’s Baton Relay in London 2010, Patiala House Court Special CBI Judge A.S. Yadav on Thursday extended the police custody of CWG Organising Committee (OC) official M. Jayachandran for two more days.
Allowing the application of the CBI, the court said, “In view of the relevant circumstances and in order to complete further investigation, the accused is remanded to the CBI custody till November 27.”
Apart from Mr Jayachandran’s two-day CBI custody, the special CBI court also remanded two other sacked CWG OC officials T.S. Darbari and Sanjay Mahendroo, who were arrested on November 15, to judicial custody for 13 days till December 8.
The court remanded the accused duo to Tihar Jail after the CBI told the court that they were no longer required for custodial interrogation by the agency.
Meanwhile, Darbari, through his lawyer, Tanvir Ahmed, moved the court seeking regular bail.
The court, however, perusing the application of Darbari, issued notice to the CBI and fixed it for hearing on November 30.
Darbari told the court that the CBI was playing foul against him, as the agency, which lodged two separate FIRs in the QBR case, has deliberately arrested me in connection with one case with an aim to harass me later in the other matter. In both the cases the agency can arrest me at the same time. But it acted in a malafide manner by not adhering to the prescribed rules and regulations.
The court, however, rejected the plea of Darbari and said “the courts cannot ask an investigative agency to arrest or not to arrest an accused in a case. It is the sole prerogative of the agency.”
The CBI had earlier submitted that the accused, who are highly connected and powerful, were evasive, non-co-operative and not coming up with the truth during the probe.
The CBI had claimed that the accused persons had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy and abused their official positions, awarded the work to M/s AM Car and Van Hire Limited on the basis of false and forged documents and caused a huge financial loss to the government and corresponding illegal gain to the firm.
