OC splurged funds on new office space
The CWG Organising Committee, is paying the New Delhi Municipal Council Rs 66 crores per annum as rent for its current office at the New Delhi City Centre (NDCC)-II.
The total space rented by the OC is over 1.25 lakh-square-feet. The ninth floor is used by top honchos of the OC, while the eighth floor is for the technology department. T
he other floors accommodate various departments. But as compared to the 1.25 lakh-square-feet of space it has rented in NDCC-II, the OC had “deemed it fit” to hire 20,000-square-feet of space when it decided to shift to the IOA Bhavan from Jawaharal Nehru Stadium. Despite paying from its own budget for renovation of the 20,000 square-feet of space, it decided to use only 6,750 square-feet, which was 33 per cent of the original requirement. This space was also not used. But the IOA Bhavan was paid an additional Rs 4.11 crores, besi-des a rent and maintenance of Rs 1.99 crores for a period of 21 months between January 2008 to September 2009. And, while the work was yet to finish, the OC decided to hire the NDCC-II. The CAG has pointed out these accounting flaws. No OC official could be contacted for their version.
