Odisha halts Naxal combing ops
Feb. 20: It was decided on Sunday that there would be no combing operations against the Maoists and they, in turn, would not cause any untoward incident that might derail the negotiations for the release of hostages, who according to the Maoists, are safe and sound.
As discussions began on Sunday between moderators and representatives of the Odisha government in Bhubaneswar to finalise the modalities of talks with the Maoist representatives for the release of the Malkangiri Collector, Mr R. Vineel Krishna, and the junior engineer, Mr Majhi Pabitra, the Maoists announced that both the hostages were safe and being taken care of.
In a letter written in Telugu, the Maoists said that the Odisha government should now decide the time limit by which it wanted to solve the issue.
They also warned of serious consequences if the state government deviated from the peace process and tried to use force against the Maoists.
On Sunday evening, after two sessions of discussions, the interlocutors, Prof. G. Haragopal and Prof. Someswara Rao, and the Odisha government officials issued a joint statement at a press conference declaring that neither the government nor the Maoists would resort to violence that could derail the peace process.
