Office-goers in Hyderabad stranded in jams
Hyderabad: With Ganesh immersions stretching to Thursday, motorists had a harrowing time on the Tank Bund stretch as traffic restrictions were still in place.
While Wednesday, the tenth day of the Ganesh festival, had been declared a government holiday, Thursday was a working day. However, traffic was allowed on Tank Bund only in the late evening and long queues of vehicles were witnessed on the lower Tank Bund and Narayanaguda side in the morning.
There were huge traffic jams throughout the city in the evening due to the dual effect of traffic restrictions and extensive water logging as rains lashed the city in the afternoon.
The restrictions were supposed to be lifted by 9 am on Thursday but with the mammoth delays in the processions, the police placed fresh curbs. Traffic cops diverted vehicles from R.P. Road and M.G. Road towards Sanjeevaiah Park.
While vehicles were allowed on Lower Tank Bund and Telugu Talli flyover, the roads were completely jammed leaving motorists fuming. Many were also forced to travel through Narayanaguda as the shortest routes were also clogged. “This time the processions have been delayed so much that it has become a two-day affair. It will not be a surprise if it turns into a three-day affair next year,” a senior police official said.
There were huge traffic jams in the evening as well in Lakdikapul, Saifabad, Abids areas due to spillover from Tank Bund.
