Omar assures justice
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah was on Tuesday in Anantnag — worst hit in the recent violence — where he assured the people that the policemen who shot dead three local youth what the witnesses have alleged in cold blood will be brought to justice soon.
Investigations by a group of ministers and a ruling National Conference MP have revealed that it were not CRPF men, but the members of the local police force who while chasing a group of stone-pelting youth barged into a private house and then shot seven youth, three of whom died on the spot or on way to hospital. The victims included the son of the house owner who had tried to shut the main gate apparently to save the youth who had taken shelter in the house compound to escape the police’s wrath.
After chairing a meeting of the prominent residents of district Anantnag, the chief minister said that he has received the preliminary enquiry report about the June 29 shooting incident and that action will be taken accordingly. The meeting was held to get feedback about the recent incidents as also suggestions from the citizens to maintain peace and order, officials here said.
