One more killed in J&K firing
SRINAGAR, Aug. 14: At least one person was killed and over two dozen protesters and 10 police and CRPF personnel were injured in street clashes and shooting incidents in the Valley on Saturday.
Surging crowds defied curfew at several places in Srinagar and elsewhere by holding protest demonstrations and at few places clashed with security forces when they stepped in and swung bamboo sticks, burst teargas canisters and opened fire to restore order.
The CRPF opened fire to quell a rock-throwing mob at Sarnal Laazbal in southern Anantnag district in the evening wounding half a dozen persons. One of them, identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Latoo, died on way to hospital.
Meanwhile, in what is seen as an attempt to salvage the law and order situation in the state, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mr Omar Abdullah, has announced 50,000 government jobs to be offered to the unemployed youth of the state whose number has already touched the 4 lakh mark.
In his Independence Day-eve message, the Chief Minister appealed to the youth of the state, especially those in the Valley, to help the government in restoring normalcy and separately urged the separatists to seize the PM’s peace offer by agreeing to join the proposed talks for resolving the political issues.
