Only 38,940 to get UP aid for jobless
Out of the lakhs who enthusiastically applied for it, only 38,940 young men will get an unemployment allowance from September 1.
“The money will be sent directly into their accounts on September 1,” said UP labour minister Waqar Ahmad Shah.
According to official sources, the state government has received 1.10 lakh “valid” applications for the unemployment allowance of which 38,940 have been approved in the fist phase while 356 applications have been rejected on various grounds.
The remaining applications will be cleared in a phased manner.
In Lucknow, the official sources claim that they have received 1,123 applications of which only 9 have been rejected and the rest approved.
A senior official in the labour department said that though lakhs of applications had been received but when the rules were drawn up, majority of them were found to be “not eligible”.
“We had maximum applications from youth in the age group of 18 to 25 but since the criterion does not cover this age group at all and all of them were termed invalid,” the official explained.
It may be recalled that when the unemployment allowance was announced by the Samajwadi Party in its election manifesto, unemployed young men and women had started queuing up to register themselves at employment exchanges across the state. So huge was the rush that the police had a tough time in managing the crowds and some employment exchanges even had to double the number of collection counters.
