Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala consult aides
Thiruvananthapuram: A coordination committee of the PCC and the government on Thursday rallied behind Chief Minister Oommen Chandy but the question of PCC chief Ramesh Chennithala joining the Cabinet remained open-ended.
Chennithala told reporters that it was decided to hold public meetings at district level explaining the stand of the UDF government.
The leaders were concerned about regaining the lost image of the government and winning back the trust of the people. “The government, KPCC–UDF working style has to be improved. Public meetings have been called at all district headquarters for this,” a senior Congress leader told DC.
Earlier, both Chandy and Chennithala held talks at the KPCC office coinciding with the meeting of the newly appointed party spokespersons.
“Apart from the general directives for the spokespersons on how to behave in television discussions and make comments on social networking sites, the meeting decided not to change the stand on Chennithala’s inclusion in the cabinet.
Though leaders of UDF allies have been pressurising the Congress high command on a cabinet expansion, Chennithala has to convince them on hisstand,” a party spokesperson told DC.
While Chennithala is expected to leave for New Delhi on Friday to attend the PCC chiefs’ meeting on Saturday, Chandy will hold discussions with the AICC leaders on Sunday and Monday.
