Oommen Chandy : Raval not to appear again
The Centre on Saturday rejected the statement made by the additional solicitor general that seemed to favour the Italians and their ship in the February 15 sea firing case, while chief minister Oommen Chandy said the ASG will not appear in the case anymore.
“It was his personal opinion, and the firing incident happened in the Indian territorial waters,” union minister for shipping G.K. Vasan was quoted by PTI as saying in Chennai.
The state government meanwhile put on record its strong opposition to the submission of the ASG Harin Raval in the Enrica Lexie case, the chief minister said in Kochi on Saturday.
He said he spoke to the solicitor general and asked him to keep Rawal out of the case.
“The solicitor-general agreed to this,” Chandy told the media, adding the state government kept the Centre posted at every stage of the case.
In Thrissur, federal corporate affairs minister Veerappa Moily said the Centre and the state were not divided on the issue.
“Sometimes the views expressed are not in consonance with the views of the central government. I do not think that both the governments are on different wavelengths,” he said.
“The government is clear the incident happened in Indian waters,” Vasan told the media. “It might be his personal opinion,” Vasan said, responding to Harin Raval’s submission that Enrica Lexie was not within Indian territorial waters when the two marines aboard it shot dead two Indian fishermen on February 15.
