Oppo. demand for Raja's resignation untenable: Narayanasamy

The opposition's demand for resignation of telecom minister A. Raja on the 2G Spectrum allocation issue is "untenable" and "unacceptable" and is being made for political mileage, Union minister of state for planning V. Narayanasamy said here on Saturday.

"The opposition is stalling proceedings in Parliament and raising the demand for Raja's resignation just for political mileage," he told reporters here.

The disruption in Assembly proceedings has led to a delay in adoption of many important bills and also sanction of funds for expenditure for the next three months, he said.

He pointed out that the 2G spectrum allocation was as per the National Telecom Policy, 1999, and that it was for the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to go into the CAG report for confirmation.

Mr Narayanasamy said the opposition has no right to demand Mr Raja's resignation unless and until the charges against him were proved.

Talking about AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's offer to provide support to the UPA government in the event of DMK pullout if Raja resigns, he said Union health minister and AICC in-charge of Tamil Nadu Ghulam Nabi Azad had himself said "there is no vacancy in Tamil Nadu" as the party is in alliance with DMK.

The minister also demanded an apology from former RSS leader K.S. Sudarshan for his remarks on AICC leader Mrs Sonia Gandhi. Sudharshan, while interacting with the media in Bhopal on November 10, had made derogatory comments against Congress president and UPA chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi.
