Over 42 per cent polling has been recorded till 1 pm in the byelections to the 12 Assembly constituencies in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

Siddipet in Medak district reported the highest 49 per cent polling, while the lowest 35 per cent turnout was recorded in Nizamabad urban constituency, state chief electoral officer I.V. Subba Rao told reporters here.
Polling began at 7 am and will end at 5 pm. The bypolls have been necessitated as the sitting MLAs had quit their posts in the support of a separate Telangana demand.
